Located about 150 km from the city of Kolhapur, the scenic town of Sawantwadi is surrounded by the Sahyadris in the east and the Arabian Sea in the west. From lush forests to picturesque lakes, there are a number of natural retreats where visitors can relax and rejuvenate.

Sawantwadi is best known for its Konkani delicacies that are liberally cooked with coconut, ganjifas, which is an ancient card game, and traditional wooden toys that have been made here for centuries. The town was established by Khem Sawant Bhosale in 1580, and the royal palace near Moti Talav at Sawantwadi is home to the royal Sawant clan even today. A part of the palace has been converted into a museum and is surely worth a visit.
