Built on River Bhavani, the Bhavanisagar Dam and Reservoir boasts a picturesque setting, from where visitors can enjoy beautiful and scenic views. Since it lies at quite a height, the dam gives sweeping views of the surrounding areas. Lying about 80 km from Coimbatore, it is considered to be one of the biggest earthen dams in the country. In the vicinity of the dam lies a lush garden that invites families to lounge and picnic in its green surroundings. An orchid park, located within the garden, holds particular charm for children.

The dam was constructed during the post-independent era and is used to store water for irrigation, generate electricity, supply drinking water, control flood and control the silt formation in the downstream river. It is very important for hydro-electricity.
