ABOUT THE

Destination

Sankisa or Sankassya or Sankasya associated with modern-day Basantpur village located in Uttar Pradesh, is one of the lesser known sites associated with Lord Buddha’s miracles. It is believed that Lord Buddha descended here from heaven, after delivering sermons to his mother. Buddhist legends say that this village, referred to as Sankasya in Ramayana, is where Buddha came down to Earth accompanied by Lord Brahma and Lord Indra, climbing a jewel-encrusted ladder. This anecdote has inspired Buddhist art as well.
