Attraction

The Namdroling Nyingmapa monastery (or Thegchog Namdrol Shedrub DargyeLing) is said to be the largest teaching centre of the Nyingmapa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism in the world. Located amid sandal groves of Bylakuppe in Mysuru district, Karnataka, this is home to over 5,000 lamas (both monks and nuns). Its initial structure was a three-storey temple, covering an area of approximately 80 square feet.

The monastery was established by the 11th throne holder of the Palyul lineage, of Nyingma, Pema Norbu Rinpoche in 1963.

The nearest major city is Mysuru, 90 km away.
