ABOUT THE

Attraction

Located in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, the Mindrolling monastery is considered to be one of the largest centres for Buddhist studies and culture preservation today. About 300 monks live and study here and it is also the home of the prestigious Ngagyur Nyingma College. In addition to its educational accomplishments, the monastery is credited with preserving Buddhist traditions and also translating and publishing culture journals regularly.
It houses the magnanimous Ngedon Gatsal Ling, the main prayer hall. There’s also a Great Peace Stupa that has been built here. Standing tall at a height of 185 ft and with a width of 100 square feet, it is the largest stupa in the world and a shining example of Buddhist architecture. The stupa contains within it several floors of shrine rooms and religious relics. These shrine rooms include the Buddha Shakyamuni Shrine Room, the Four Immeasurables Shrine Room and the Life-Force Tree and Mandala.
The monastery hosts several ceremonies throughout the year. These include the Drubcho, the Yamantaka Tordok, the Vajrasattva Drubcho, the Kamei Tsogchen Dupa Drubcho, among many others. The nearest major town is Dehradun.
