Located inside Nayaka Palace in Thanjavur, this museum has the best collection of bronzes in the South. A number of stone carvings can as well be found here. Among the notable sculptures are those of Bhairava, Umasahita Siva, Kali, Somaskanda and Rama Lakshmana group. The museum is open for visitors from 9. 30 am to 1 pm and 3 to 6 pm on all days except national holidays.
The two not-be-missed sections at the Thanjavur Palace are the Saraswati Mahal Library Museum and the Art Gallery, This library has over 30,000 palm leaf and paper manuscripts in Indian and European languages preserved here. The place is open for visitors every day except Wednesdays.
