RAIPUR

The capital city of Chhattisgarh, Raipur was founded by the Kalchuri King Ram Chandra in the late 14th century. This information is debatable, as some sources say that Raipur was built by King Ram Chandra, however some sources say Kalchuri King Brahmdeo Rai established the city and so it was named after him as ‘Raipur’.  An emerging industrial centre, the establishment of Chilpi Steel Plant has added momentum to the pace of development in Raipur. Raipur has been in existence since the 9th century the old site and ruins of the fort can be seen in the southern part of the city. Raipur district is important historically and as a point of interest in archaeologically. This district was once part of the Dakshina Kosala Kingdom and later a part of the Mauryan Empire. Raipur has been the capital of the Haihaya Dynasty Kalchuri kings, controlling the forts of Chhattisgarh for a considerable period. Satavahana kings ruled this part until the 2nd–3rd century.Journey along its beautiful landscape and the historical sites located in this region, a road trip would offer a fascinating stretch that is Raipur-Kawardha- Bhoramdeo-Bodla- Chilpi- Supkhar-Muddi (178 Km).
