Patanjali Yogapeeth

Patanjali Yogpeeth (Trust) was founded in 4 February, 2005. The Trust was founded by Swami Ramdev ji Maharaj and Acharya Balkrishna ji Maharaj with the purpose of establishing Yoga and Ayurveda on the world map, for the study and ancient research of the Vedic tradition of Yoga & Ayurveda, The institution has a wide range of yoga activities which include yoga classes held as camps outside and in the institution for healthy persons and patients with television broadcasts of the classes as well; yoga classes at the institution which are free held every day conducted by trained teachers; yoga courses conducted by the university; research on yoga and dissemination of knowledge through books, international conferences etc to make a disease free world through a scientific approach to Yoga and Ayurveda. Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidylaya

Har-Ki-Pauri

Regarded as one of the most scared Ghats in Haridwar and India, Har-Ki-Pauri is visited by devotees and visitors in large number seeking the blessings of Holy Ganga by offering their prayers. It is the place where River Ganga flowing through the Himalayas touches the plain for the first time and that those who take a dip in River Ganga can wash off all their sins. According to the history, the place has a mark of Lord Vishnu’s footprint on a stone which is even present today. This is why, it is believed that Lord Shiva visited Har ki Pauri during the Vedic period. Constructed by King Vikramaditya in memory of his brother Bhartrihari, who it is believed had come to Haridwar to meditate on the banks of the Ganga, this sacred Ghat is an enchanting sight to behold with a plethora of temples at the river bank and golden hues of floral diyas floating in the river. The chanting of mantras and prayers with sages meditating exudes spiritual vibes and is an experience of a lifetime. The sound of gongs in the background takes one to an entirely different world.

Chandi Devi Temple

Chandi Devi temple, built by Adi Shankaracharya in 8th century A.D is one of the most ancient temples of north India. According to Hindu mythology, the ancient kingdom of Lord Indra was captured by two demons called Shumbh and Nishumbh who had thrown the Gods from the heaven. Prayers of the gods were heard Chandika Devi, a powerful Goddess was formed from the cells of Goddess Parvathi. She was a beautiful and dynamic Goddess and demon King Shumbh wished to marry her. She refused and the king sent Chanda and Munda to kill her. They were killed by Kalika Devi who was born out of Chandika Devi's anger. When their efforts failed the Demon kings themselves tried to kill Chandika Devi but were in turn slain by the Goddess. Battle won Chandika Devi rested for a short while at Neel Parvat. To keep the Goddess among the mortals and welcome her back again, the Chandi Devi temple was built. The temple is a very famous pilgrim spot and gathers devotees all around the year. Because of its location, the Chandi Devi temple is also a preferred choice for trekkers.

Mansa Devi Temple

Dedicated to the Hindu deity Mansa Devi, Mansa Devi Temple is placed atop a hillock known as the Bilwa Parvat of the Shiwalik Range of the Himalayas. The Goddess is said to grant all wishes and the devotees make their wishes by tying a piece of thread on the branches of the tree located in the temple complex and come back to the temple to untie it after the wish is granted.

Sapt Rishi Ashram And Sapt Sarovar

According to legend, the seven sages, Kashyap, Vashist, Atri, Vishwamitra, Jamadagni, Bhardwaj and Gautam meditated here. The Ganga, not wanting to disturb them, split herself into seven streams (Sapt Sarovar) around them.

Daksh Mahadev Temple And Sati Kund

The ancient temple of Daksha Mahadev stands in the south Kankhal town. Mythology has it that the King Daksh Prajapati, father of Sati (Lord Shiva's first wife) performed yagya at this place, but didn’t invite Lord Shiva (Mahadev). Feeling insulted, Sati burnt herself in the yagya kund. Provoked by this, the ganas (followers) of Lord Shiva killed King Daksha. Later Lord Shiva brought him back to life.
