Gurdwara Darbar Sahib

GURDWARA DARBAR SAHIB

Gurudwara Darbar Sahib better known as Gurudwara Dera Baba Nanak is located on the banks of river Ravi, a short distance from the international border with Pakistan, marks the spot where Guru Nanak Dev delivered his discourses. As a result of his samadh in Kartarpur, now in Pakistan, being washed away due to floods, his son Baba Sri Chand salvaged the urn with his ashes and buried it here in Gurdaspur, near a well where Guru Nanak used to preach. He raised another 'Samadhi' at this site and we know it today as the 'Dera' of Guru Nanak. Almost 300 years later, Maharaja Ranjit Singh had the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib built over the original 'Dera', enclosing the well in its basement, the waters of which are said to have curative powers. In close proximity, lies another prominent Gurudwara, Chola sahib.
