GURDASPUR

Gurdaspur, a major city of Punjab was founded by Guriya ji Mahant in 17th century. The place forms the north most part of the state. It is flanked by the rivers Beas and Ravi; it shares the boundary with districts of Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Amritsar and Pathankot. City has both historical and spiritual significance. The mughal emperor Akbar was enthroned in a garden near Kalanaur known as Takht-e-Akbari. Alexander, the Great, fought one of his many battles here. Dera Baba Nanak located a few kilometres from the border with Pakistan is home to Dera of Guru Nanak and in Batala he got married to Bibi Sulakhni. Baradari and palace built by Maharaja Sher Singh son of maharaja Ranjit Singh, as it is, to the striking 19th century Chapel under the administration of the union baring Christian College, Tomb of Sayid Imam Ali Shah, Boura of Hazrat Peer Shah Hussain- Rattar Chattar, the Tomb of Sher Khan, a fine example of Mughal architecture of the time and martyr memorial site Chhota Ghallughara, to commemorate the sacrifice of Sikhs are there. Quadian, the birth place of the Ahmediyah community of Muslims, Guru Di Maseet built by the sixth Guru Sri Guru Har Gobind Sahib,Gurudwara Achal Sahib and Achleshwar Temple of kartike, the son of Lord Shiva.

It is renowned for Dera Baba Nanak, the home to the Dear of Guru Nanak, Kandh Sahib Gurudwara in Batala where the marriage ceremony of Guru Nanak Dev was celebrated, is revered by all the people.
