Set against the backdrop of the majestic Banasura Hills, the gorgeous Banasura Sagar Dam is famed as the largest earthen dam in India and the second-largest in Asia. Lying on River Karamanathodu, an offspring of River Kabini, the dam invites tourists for its picturesque surroundings and pristine beauty. From taking a relaxing boat ride and enjoying the scenic beauty to trekking through rocky terrains around it, there are many adventure options for tourists. Named after Asura King Banasura, the dam is located at a distance of 26 km from Wayanad in Kalpetta district.

The Banasura Sagar Dam was constructed to help the drinking water and irrigation requirements of the people during summer months and to aid the Kakkayam Hydroelectric Power Project.
