Located on Pudukottai Road near the airport, the Anna Science Centre is a Planetarium that was inaugurated in 1999, to popularise science and technology among the masses. The Planetarium is divided into 11 galleries that display interesting aspects of earth, nature, science and technology. Particularly interesting is the Environment Gallery that houses a fascinating exhibit of biodiversity and flora of the ecosystem. Tourists can also visit the Shark Island, where pictures and clips are shown in 3D. The Planetarium also has an amphitheatre, where tourists can catch amazing science shows that are projected in both English and Tamil. Moreover, there is a separate block for children where they can learn the basics of space and astronomy and the secrets of wild jungles and the deep sea, apart from watching science movies.
