Exploring the Government Museum is like stepping back into royal history. So many gorgeous royal artefacts are displayed at the museum that one would be left in awe of the grandeur of those times. The highlight is the Pachaimalai miniature, along with idols of Lord Nataraja, Lord Vishnu and Goddess Durga. Other pieces of interest include a fine collection of tribal articles, a small model of Pachaimalai Hills, ancient coins, palm leaf manuscripts and metal and earthen moulds with inscriptions on them. Tourists can also visit the newly opened Sculpture Park that houses statues of gods and goddesses, like Lord Vishnu, Lord Ganesha, Lord Brahma and Goddess Sridevi, from the 13th century. There is an 18th-century sacrificial altar as well, along with shivlings, nandi idols and stone relics.
