Lying at a distance of 90 km from Thanjavur, Thirunallar Temple is dedicated to Lord Saneeswaran, aka Saturn. The temple is said to have been built by the legendary King Nala, who believed that all his obstacles had been relieved due to the influence of Saturn. According to Hindu scriptures, Saturn occupies the most important planetary position and if one pleases it, they will find a remedy for everything. Thus, the temple was built to please Saturn. There is a holy tank next to the temple called Nala Theertham, where devotees like to take a dip as it is believed that it will wash off their sins. The Saneeswaran, Sri Vadaranyeswarar and Badrakaliyamman temples are the three main attractions of Thirunallar. Apart from Saneeswaran, the other eight of the nine Navagraha Temples are located near Thirunallar and you can make a round tour to all nine temples believed to be dedicated to the nine celestial bodies that influence Hindu astrology.
