One of the oldest structures in Mangaluru, the Milagres Church was set up in 1600, and is dedicated to Our Lady of Miracles. Exuding a tranquil vibe, the church boasts exquisite architecture and an old-world charm. It was built by Bishop Thomas de Castro from Goa and it is believed that Bednore’s queen, Keladi Chennama, gave the land to build the church in the 17th century. Tourists can visit this unique church and meditate in its peaceful ambience or admire the beautiful monolithic marble altar that has a notable painting of St Augustine and St Monica. It houses the statue of Our Lady too. Other striking sights are six statues of apostles that are mounted on pedestals. These bear a resemblance to statues in St Peter's Basilica, Rome.
