Popularly known as Mizo Poet’s Square, Hlakungpui Mual was built to commemorate the poets of Mizoram. The idea was conceived in 1983 when the people of Khawbung village decided to build a memorial for their famous poets, Patea and Damhuahva. Later, the locals decided to add every poet who had contributed to Mizo literature to the memorial. The names of the authors are added after a minimum of five years of their death. The first phase saw the induction of the names of Patea and Damhauhva on April 6 and 7, 1986, and their remains were taken from their graves and buried in the ground beneath their monument. The monument is located in Khawbung village of Mizoram, about 100 km from Chittagong, Bangladesh.
