Explore Port-Blair city and its best places to visit

With its silver sandy beaches and rich historical heritage, Port Blair acts as a gateway to the picturesque Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Perfect for tourists, Port Blair, which is the capital of Andaman and Nicobar islands, has plenty of eco-friendly beach resorts along its meandering coastline. These offer multiple options for boating, swimming, snorkeling, sea cruises and sightseeing. The Aberdeen Bazaar forms the centre of the town and is its cultural hub. Most of the restaurants and hotels are around this area. All entry and exit points from Port Blair are best accessed from this bazaar. The main bus station lies west of this bazaar and the airport lies towards the south-west. The main passenger dock for ferries, Phoenix Bay Jetty, is about a kilometre towards the north-west.

Port Blair has a lot of Tamil and Bengali population so the influence of both these cultures is clearly visible here. It is a quiet and serene place with very clean and clear waters that enjoys a pleasant climate.

For those who enjoy long walks, the walkway along the sea is an ideal spot. Another interesting feature here is the golgappa (puchka) sellers that dot the roadsides. Quite different from the kind served in north India, here the version is made with spiced mashed potatoes, onions and tangy water.
