Glass Items

Glass is made and blown in several areas - Ferozabad in Uttar Pradesh, is one of the biggest centers. Glass bangles, small animals, ornate chandeliers and decorative items are some of the things made from glass.

Paper Crafts

The Moghul emperor, Babur, is said to have introduced paper-making into India – until then, writing and painting were done on the dried leaves of the palmyra tree. Look out for:

Handmade paper - made from cotton waste, handmade paper is both lasting and decorative.

Papier Mache – used to make trinket boxes, bowls, trays, lamps, candle stands and masks, the craft developed in the Kashmir Valley as a sideline to the paper industry there.

Kites

Kite flying is a competitive adult sport that reaches it peak during Makar Sankranti (14 th Jan) and basant Panchmi (in Punjab , 11 th Feb). The objective is to sever as many kite strings as possible.

Leather

The main product of the leather industry is footwear, with possibly the most famous product being the slippers made in Kolhapur , Maharashtra .

Basketry

Bamboo is used all over the country, especially in the North East, to weave baskets, mats, blinds, and make plates, mugs and pipes.
