Sights to See
Organised every year by the J &K Govt. during the month of shravan ( July and August), the Amarnath Yatra is full of thrill and joy. The dates for yatra are fixed after taking into account the weather conditions and according to Purnima (Raksha Bandhan) in the month of Shravan (Vikrama Samwat).
TO reach the holy shrine of Amarnath devotees have to trek a height of about 14,500 feet. The date of darshan at the Holy Cave will be allotted to each yatri on first come first served basis depending upon the daily quota available for each route. Yatris should reach Jammu 5 days prior to the allotted date of Darshan or Srinagar 4 days in advance in case of opting to travel along the Pahalgam route and 3 days in case of the Baltal route.
The Amarnath Yatra is extremely difficult and involves trekking at high altitudes upto 14000 ft., under difficult conditions and uncertain weather. Yatris are required to trek for 6 days to approach the Holy Cave for darshan and return to the base camp at Pahalgam. Similarly, it takes two days of strenuous trekking to approach the Holy Cave.
